Chapter 022: A Rare Find! The Mythical Digimon Farm!
*****************************************

Two days after their adventures at Pokemon Stadium, Shinsei and his friends were once again on the road, moving forward towards their destination at Upsotia, where Linkara would soon be arriving at. While making another stop at a do-it-yourself car wash, Patamon, Culumon and Kazpa stood nearby as Shinsei pondered at the set of dials nearby.

“Pre-wash... bug removal... pre-soap... soap... wash...” The teen scratched his spiky hair in confusion, “Can’t this thing just do everything one at a time for 100 bits?”

“It doesn’t work that easily, Shinsei.” Rose commented, “Usually you have to pay 100 bits per step. So altogether, you’re looking at around 1,000 bits for everything. Unless of course, you rush through any of the processes.”

Patamon hopped atop of Rose’s rooftop as he looked down, “How do you know all of this, anyway?”

“Eve use to take me to these things all the time. Though she usually skipped the pre things and went for the actual processes.”

“Well if that’s what Grandma use to do...” Shinsei began as he turned the dial to soap, “We might as well do it the way she did it!” A burst of soap suddenly sprayed all over the red bug... and engulfed Patamon in a mass heap of soapy goodness, with his blue eyes poking out of the soap.

His eyes gave an angry expression as Shinsei chuckled nervously, “Ehehehe.... sorry Patamon...”

“Hold up, Shinsei!” Kazpa exclaimed as he grabbed some of the piles of suds all over Rose and shaped it around his body... eventually forming a familiar round ghostly yokai butler.

“Look at me, I’m Whisper!” Kazpa exclaimed as he coughed a bit and did his best exaggerated Whisper impression, complete with quick movements, “Oh, my dear Fishie-chan! HOW I MISS HER!! Someday we shall meet again and when we do I will give her my love, my pain and ALL OF MY SORROW!!! DOHH HOH HOH HOH!!”

******************************

Meanwhile, Forgetfish was laying down in a relaxing futon back in Gidon as she suddenly gave a series of blinks, “... why do I have a sudden urge to get right behind my student and rip him to shreds?”

******************************

Back in Arvinity, Culumon gave a light hearted laugh, “Culumon doesn’t know what a Whisper is, but Culumon thinks Kazpa is acting silly! Culumon wants to play with the soap!” She then grabbed some of the suds herself and started to play with Kazpa, Shinsei remarked, “Uh... I know you all are having fun with the soap and all, but... KINDA need to rinse off Rose, you know...”

However, despite his pleas, the two continued to play around, all while Patamon continued to show an annoyed expression. Realizing he had the nozzle in hand, he gave a mischievous smirk, “Ok you all... last chance...!”

Realizing what Shinsei was about to do, Patamon quickly waved his paws in objection...

... But was immediately soaked with a moderate spray of water, along with the other two

All of them blinked in confusion before showing angry looks towards Shinsei as he tried to defend himself, “I... um... I tried to warn you all!”

Kazpa looked to Patamon with a similar mischevious grin, “Revenge time?”

Patamon responded with a similar smirk, “Revenge time.” The whispy Yokai then pointed towards Shinsei and exclaimed, “GET HIM!!!”

“H-HEY!!”

All three then went after Shinsei as they worked together to grab the nozzle from him... and upon doing so, quickly sprayed him with water as well! Screaming out from getting wet, Shinsei couldn’t help but laugh, as he grabbed another nozzle in the same stall and sprayed them with water as well.

And as everyone was laughing and having fun, Rose avatar gave a sigh, but then smiled as she saw the group have a great deal of fun. Though she could tell that the last couple of days have been more relaxed for the group compared to the events that transpired at Capitol City as well as during her major breakdown, she could only hope for these 4 that the fun times would continue on.

******************************************

Flapping his wet clothes outside the car wash, Shinsei was now in a slightly new set of clothing, this time with a sleeveless vest without a hoodie, with a black t-shirt showcasing the digital hazard, as well as black triangles on each sleeve. The pants were another pair of black pants.

He gave a frown as he continued to try to dry out the wet clothes, “I guess this is what happens when you get a bad idea at a car wash, huh guys?”

The three were rubbing themselves dry with towels as Kazpa gave a chuckle, “I don’t know, I thought all of that was pretty entertaining!” Culumon gave a nod as well, “Culumon never played with water like that before!”

“YOU HAVEN’T!?” Kazpa exclaimed, “Jeez, you’re totally missing out!” The Digimon looked slightly confused, “What does Kazpa mean?”

“Two words: Super. Soakers. We TOTALLY have to try to buy some at the next store we go to!”

Patamon sighed heavily as he finished rubbing himself and smiled a bit, “As long as we get a forewarning that we’re getting into a super soaker fight, I’m ok with that.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to make it up the hill, DS?”

“Pft, come on Guilmon. Are you kidding? We don’t got time to deal with rumors about the Legendary Tamer. Besides, what are we gonna do when we meet her if we DO make it anyway?”

The teen’s ears caught the conversation between a Digimon and it’s Tamer whom seemed like a middle age adult as he soaked what looked to be a 4x4 pick up truck, wearing slick shades with a dark purple bandana, a leather jacket and steel chains on his leather jeans. His Guilmon had an equal fashion sense as he too wore black shades with a fedora. As he finished drying out the clothes and put them in a small plastic bag, he walked over to the Tamer, “Um... excuse me...?”

The Tamer looked towards Shinsei curiously, “Hm?” Then he immediately noticed Patamon and Culumon walking up nearby, “Oh! You’re a Tamer too?”

Shinsei gave a nod as the Tamer looked at Culumon curiously, “Dude, that’s awesome! How did you manage to get a Culumon!?”

“Uh... Rare breed spawn in Saint Nano.”

“DAMN, all the way down there!?” the Tamer remarked, giving a frown, “That’s such a bummer. Still, you’re lucky! The name’s Darkside, but my friends call me DS. And this is my pal Guilmon. Though he also goes by the name ‘Guilrock’.”

Culumon put her paw on her mouth in curiousity, “Guil... rock?”

Guilmon crossed his arms and gave a nod, “Word! Let me lay down the lyrics to ya, kid! Tonka! Play my jam!” The Truck then began to play a long winding tune with a slow guitar riff. Shinsei and his friends, completely confused by what exactly the Digimon was setting up for, only stood there as the riff eventually got louder and louder... then...

“MAH NAME IS GUIL~~~~~~~!!!”

“GUIL ROCK!!!”

Suddenly a loud rock riff began to play from the speakers of the truck as lyrics sounding like “bawidabadabangdabangdiggydiggysaidupjumptheboogie” were incoherently heard several times... causing Shinsei and his friends to lay down massive sweat drops in response as the Guilmon and his Tamer started head banging like it was 20 years ago. Despite being an older adult, the Tamer certain still seemed like a kid at heart.

“OK, WE GET IT, YOU’RE A ROCKING DIGI DINOSAUR!!!” Kazpa exclaimed, in an effort to stop the two from their rocking jam. The music abruptly stopped as Guil Rock brought down his shades, “Dude... totally not cool.” DS agreed with a disappointed look, “You can’t just stop a rocking tune when you get it going, little ghost thing!”

Kazpa wrapped his arms around and scoffed, “Well we didn’t ask for a rock concert!” Shinsei chuckled lightly, “He’s got a point anyway. I just wanted to ask about this ‘Legendary Tamer’ you were talking about.”

“Oh, Megchan?” DS remarked, “Yeah, rumor has it that she lives up the hills from here. They say she won several dozen Digimon Tournaments all around the world back in the day, but no one has really seen her since she won her last tournament more than 15 years ago.”

The black haired teen tapped his head a bit, “Megchan... Megchan... I think I recall hearing that name before.”

“Well, I wouldn’t blame you if you don’t recall her name NOW. She hasn’t been a relevant name since then. Of course, me and Guil Rock here heard about her ALL the time back when we tried to compete in the D-1 Grand Prixs here in town. But that’s totally in the past now. These days, me and Guil Rock just like hitting up all the chill places and giving some entertaining battles from time to time.”

Guil Rock straightened his shades as he looked towards his Tamer, “Yo DS, you think maybe this kid would be better off trying to make the trip to visit Megchan?”

Realizing the ingenious idea, DS nodded slowly, “Ohhh yeaah... Guil Rock, you got a killer good idea right there!”

Shinsei thought about the situation: If this Megchan was in fact up the hills, someone with that many wins under her belt could likely give him and his Digimon a few good tips on what they could do to further improve their abilities together. That and maybe even help him see if he could further evolve Patamon. But on the other hand, they seemed to imply that no one knows for sure if she’s even there.

Despite this, however, and after a bit of thinking, Shinsei decided to look over to Patamon, “What do you think, Patamon? Should we investigate?”

Patamon thought about the scenario similarly to Shinsei... and eventually, he gave a nod, “I think it’d be worth trying!”

Culumon added, “Culumon wants to meet a Legendary Tamer!” while Kazpa gave a sage nod, “Any excuse to go on a side quest is always good to me!” Shinsei then looked over to DS, “Looks like we’re all in for this. What’s the best way up that path?”

“Well, if you walk straight ahead, you’ll eventually find a rough path. Keep following it and, from what the rumors, state, that’ll take you up the hill and eventually to the summit where Megchan resides.”

“Sounds good! Thanks for the tip!” Shinsei then looked over to his friends, “Come on, let’s drop off our stuff with Rose and then we’ll make our expidition!” The group gave a cheer as they followed Shinsei back to the Red Volkswagen. But as they did, Guil Rock couldn’t help but chuckle, “You think we should’ve told them about the big obsticle along the path?”

DS gave an equally devious grin, “Nah...”

********************************************************

Several minutes later and after dropping off his stuff with Rose, Shinsei and his group trekked towards the hill, eventually finding the rocky path DS mentioned and following it into the dense woods. As they continued to walk onwards, various unique bird calls could be heard as the trees rustled and the wind blew lightly.

Patamon, Culumon and Kazpa seemed rather fascinated by the lush greenery all over, but Shinsei, despite appreciating the scenery, also had a nagging feeling in the back of his mind. Eventually noticing this, Patamon asked, “What’s wrong, Shinsei?”

“I get the feeling I’m forgetting something, Patamon.” Shinsei began as the group continued to trek forward, “Like there’s something we should be majorly aware of when we go down grassy plains like this.”

The group gave a curious expression as they all thought together in unison. Culumon brought up, “If it’s snacks, Culumon still has snacks in Culumon’s 4D Backpack!”

“No... that’s not it...”

Patamon added, “Is it the fact that we should make sure we’re well hydrated during a trek up a large hill like this?”

“No...”

Kazpa exclaimed, “OH! I KNOW! It’s the fact that you should be looking for Yokai in the woods!”

“No... and again, I thought Yokai are scarce in Arvinity.”

“You never know! Totally use that Tri-Ark to find one!”

stomp stomp stomp

The ground started the quiver as the group stopped moving. Shinsei asked, “You... all feel that?”

Patamon and Culumon nodded as Kazpa, whom was floating, gave a confused look, “Feel what now?”

STOMP STOMP STOMP

Culumon cowered a bit, “Culumon is scared!” Patamon got in front of Culumon as his eyes narrowed, “Shinsei!”

STOMP STOMP STOMP

It was then that Shinsei realized what he forgot, “... if... we’re outside the city energy borders... and the highway borders... then that means...!!”

Suddenly, a large orange dinosaur head (which the species being known as a Greymon) EXPLODED from the trees above, noticed the group... and inhaled...

ROAAAAAAR!!!

“RUN FOR IT!!!”

As Shinsei exclaimed out loud the proper course of action, he and his friends made a mad dash away from the large Greymon as it trampled across the grassy area, crushing several trees in it’s wake.

As the large Digimon gave chase, Kazpa exclaimed out loud, “HOW THE HECK DID YOU FORGET ABOUT THE LARGE DIGIMON THAT ROAM OUTSIDE TOWNS, SHINSEI!?!?”

“WELL SOMEONE SHOULD’VE REMINDED ME!!”

“I’M NOT THE DIGIMON TAMER IN THE GROUP WHO SHOULD’VE KNOWN THAT!!”

“GUYS!!!”

Hearing Patamon’s shout, the two noticed they were heading RIGHT towards a large tree branch! Seeing this, Shinsei exclaimed, “EVERYONE! SLIDE!!”

Following the teen’s lead, the group all gave a powerful slide to dodge the large tree branch and quickly regained themselves back up, as they continued to run onwards. However, the Greymon simply smashed down the large branch and gave yet another powerful roar towards the group as they started to gain a bit more traction ahead of the dino digimon.

... however, as they continued to run down, the group immediately stopped, seeing they were at the edge of one of the elevations of the hill, with the drop being fairly massive.

“Patamon!” Shinsei exclaimed out as he brought out his Digivice, “We don’t have a choice; We gotta beat that thing!” Landing on the ground on all fours, Patamon gave a determined nod as he stood staring towards Greymon. The teen then brought out the three medals he had acquired and pressed the two side buttons on the Tri-Ark.

SET THE TRI!

PRIMARINA!

IMPMON!

KAZPA!

Upon inserting all three medals with the Tri-Ark exclaiming out the commands, Shinsei pointed the Digivice towards Patamon and yelled out the key phrase, “TRI EVOLUTION!!!”

...

A very awkward breeze of the wind blew as Shinsei, Patamon and Kazpa looked equally confused at the situation, with Culumon pondering out loud, “What’s Tri Evolution?”

“Uh... Shinsei...!?” Patamon began to panic as Greymon fastly approached, “Why isn’t Tri Evolution working...!?”

The teen shook the Digivice a few dozen times as he exclaimed, “I-I don’t know! I inserted the medals exactly how I did and--” The teen stopped in mid sentence as he suddenly noticed something extremely different about the medals, “W... Why are the medals red??”

Sure enough, while the main image on the medals remained the same, the color was now red all around the sides and back as oppose to rainbow color they were when they were first used.

Kazpa quickly examined the medals with a puzzled look, “This is odd... Yokai medals normally stay the same. But these Nakama Medals changed color...”. Shinsei quickly asked, “You think it’s because Impmon isn’t here?” Kazpa gave a confused shrug in response, but then pointed towards the beast that shadowed over the group, “I-I-I-I-I-I T-T-T-T-THINK THIS IS A-A-A-A-A BAD TIME TO W-W-W-W-WONDER THIS!!!”

Shinsei and his friends looked up at the towering Greymon as it gave a snarl, seemingly ready to attack. However, it’s eyes, unbeknownist to the group, seemed to notice the Tri-Ark Shinsei was holding.

“Patamon, stay back.” The teen stepped in front of Patamon as he brought out his Key Tool to the side, forming a large weapon. When he was done creating it with the data coming out of the Key Tool, he wrapped the Tri-Ark back around his neck, then quickly grabbed the handle of the sword with both hands and brought it forward in a battle position. Being a blade the same size as Shinsei, it’s base with colored with a purple hue with the middle pointed tip and sides of the blade being a golden yellow color with scales wrapped around the bottom and a cloth towards the bottom.

Catching the Greymon slightly off guard, Patamon and the others couldn’t help but look in confusion as Kazpa asked, “The heck did you get THAT sword from, Shinsei!?”

The teen gave a determined smirk, “When it comes to getting new weapons, it pays to do Monster Hunting as a side job.”

The Greymon looked towards Shinsei, as the teen equally kept his determined stare down towards the Digimon right back. Not knowing what could occur, the group kept perfectly still...

...

“You really are gonna fight me, huh?”

Shinsei and his friends gave confused blinks as the Greymon unexpectedly gave a sigh, “Really kid, you could’ve at least tried to evolve your Digimon through the NORMAL method as oppose to relying on... whatever the heck Tri Evolution is.”

The wispy Yokai asked on behalf of the group, “You... you can talk??”

“Of course I can! What, did you think I was some sort of feral Digimon that attacks Alters and anything else on site?”

The group looked at each other briefly before looking back at Greymon, “YES!!”

“Oh... right. That WAS suppose to be my act.”

A perfectly synced facepalm ensued from everyone except Culumon whom looked at Greymon with a sense of fascination. Once Shinsei realized what Greymon was saying, however, he decided to ask, “Wait. Act? Like... you’re trained to scare anyone who comes here or something?”

“Bingo. Megchan had given me specific instructions to scare aware any intruders by any means necessary. I use to be her prized Digimon partner in the D-1 Tournaments years ago after all, so you can imagine how strong I am!”

There was a clear answer looming over the group, and Patamon decided to ask, “Then why did you just STOP?”

“Because I noticed that weird Digivice your Tamer is wielding. And honestly, I think this is something Megchan would want to take a look at.” He then turned around and showed his back as Shinsei lowered his blade while the Digimon continued, “If you want to meet her, as I expect is your intentions, then hop on my back. That Digivice of yours just gave you a free pass.”

While Shinsei, Patamon and Kazpa felt cautious, Culumon eased the caution from everyone by cheering and hopping towards Greymon, “Culumon always wanted to ride a Greymon!”

And looking at each other, the group couldn’t help but feel like the front door was being open for them. If there was a chance to enter, now was the time. So they agreed and hopped on as Greymon led them up the hill...

********************************************

Trodging along the narrow path with Greymon, the group looked over the scenery. As they did, Patamon began to notice a reoccurrence they did not see earlier, “Hey Greymon... why aren’t there any other wild Digimon out here?”

“Megchan takes care of all the Digimon in this area, so as such, there isn’t a real huge population of wild Digimon out here. You might encounter a few wild Gizamon or two, but that’s really about it.”

Shinsei tapped his chin as he thought out loud, “I wonder how big this farm is exactly...?”

“Wonder no more. Look up ahead.”

Looking over Greymon’s back and past the parting forest, the group saw before them a gigantic red barn, with a fenced field that was equally the size of a football field, with larger trees covering around the whole area to protect the place from prying eyes in the far off distance. Inside the field were, as expected, many types of Rookie Digimon. Every known type, from Agumon to V-Mon to Guilmon to Shoutmon and everything else in between to many others not as well known could all be seen, playing together or having friendly battles with one another. Dozens of other younger Digimon, which were more blob shaped, were also seen in the fields mostly playing with one another.

“This is AMAZING!” Patamon exclaimed out, “How did Megchan get so many Digimon here?”

A different voice responded to the question, “Abandoned Digimon from Tamers or other kinds of factors, really.” As the group looked around to the source of the voice, they spotted below the Greymon a middle aged woman with long brown hair with small glasses wearing a straw hat and overalls with the worm Digimon known as Wormmon next to her, whom was giving a suspicious look towards them.

“Greymon, what did I tell you about intruders?”

The Greymon cowered slightly, “T-To scare them off...”

“Then why did you bring intruders here?”

“I-I seriously have a good reason, Megchan! The boy has a unique Digivice and I thought maybe you’d be interested in it!”

The girl lowered her glasses slightly as she peered towards the Digivice Shinsei was wearing, “... it looks like a D-Ark to me... wait a second...” After a few seconds, Megchan then asked, “What’s your name?”

The teen responded back, “Shinsei Shan.”

“Shinsei huh? Ok, jump down over here so I can get a look at that device.”

The teen looked towards his partners, whom gave a shrug of uncertainty. Despite the odd initial introduction, Shinsei ultimately felt compelled to follow through as he hopped off the Digimon, then unwrapped his Tri-Ark and showed it towards Megchan. Without touching it, the girl examined it closely, “3 Crystals...? Why the heck would a D-Ark have 3 Crystals...?”

And almost instantly, it hit her. Her eyes widened in shock as she backed away slightly, “H-H-HOLY CRAP!! I REMEMBER WHAT THIS IS NOW!!!”

Shinsei gave a curious expression, “You’ve seen this sort of Digivice before?”

“No, but Ive read up on this sort of digivice! This is the Legendary Tri-Ark!!” She then looked towards Shinsei, “C-Can I examine this further?”

Again, Shinsei gave a simple nod as she grabbed the Digivice, feeling it’s weight and attempting to press the various buttons on it, “Nothing’s activating, even when I press the button in the center or to the side... but the crystals...” She tried to pry them off with no results and examined it really closely... eventually concluding “Yep! Definitely not plain ol’ Z-Crystals!”

This response caught Shinsei slightly off guard, “W-Wait... they’re NOT Z-Crystals? I thought they were this whole time...”

The girl looked back towards Shinsei, “Oh, no no no! Z-Crystals tend to have the symbol of a Pokemon element in them. That much I know about those things. But this right here? No symbol at all.” As Shinsei gave a slight frown, Megchan quickly pointed out, “But that’s actually a good thing! The stories about the Tri-Ark says that when it’s created, it uses the Z-Crystals a Chosen Child wields as a base and combines the elements of Digizoid as well another property called DNATA to create this refined crystal called the AO Crystal.”

“... AO Crystal?”

“Yeah... though that’s as far as I know about that.” She then handed back the Tri-Ark as she started to have a big smile, “Still, OMG I NEVER THOUGHT I’D MEET A CHOSEN CHILD! But... wait a second. What are you doing out here?”

Kazpa came forward as he answered for Shinsei, “We heard rumors of a Legendary Tamer and naturally Shinsei’s curiosity got to the best of him!” Shinsei gave a dull look towards Kazpa, “Hey, you agreed to the idea with everyone else...”

“Me? A Legendary Tamer?” Megchan reacted as she pointed to herself. She gave a mild laugh in response, “Oh boy, if only! I guess a long time ago you could’ve called me that, but I retired a LOOOONG time ago. These days I just look over the Digimon that come around here and buy and sell Digimon cards.”

Shinsei blinked a bit in response to the last bit of the comment, “You... collect Digimon cards too?”

“Collect, Sell AND Battle! Part of being an awesome Tamer back in the day was making sure you always had a good set of Digimon cards ready to use to support your Digimon. These days, most modern battlers don’t even deal with that since Card Slash was a D-Ark exclusive action.” Thinking about it briefly, Megchan decided to ask, “How many cards you got anyway?”

“Honestly?” Shinsei digged into his inner left pocket in his vest as he pulled out several cards, “Only a handful.” As he showed them to Megchan, she looked over them, “Hm... a few decent cards in here. But honey, you need FAR more than just these cards if you plan on getting involved in a battle.”

Greymon decided to speak out, “Him and his Digimon couldn’t even evolve to fight me, like I kinda expected them too.”

Megchan nearly lost her glasses at this revelation, “ARE YOU FOR REAL!?”

“Patamon can totally evolve!” Shinsei countered, “It’s just... he didn’t this time for some reason! See, we did something called Tri-Evolution last time and that got him to evolve to a Digimon called Tri Angemon.”

“Tri Angemon?” Megchan gave a puzzled look, “That’s a name of a DigimonI’ve never heard before. How did you even initiate the evolution anyway?”

The teen brought out the three medals he used previously, “With these.”

Megchan looked over the medals with complete fascination, “And yet another property Im not too familiar with... but I think I remember those books mentioning these things. Interesting how there’s a Pokemon, Digimon and Yokai in the bunch.” Megchan then leaned back as she continued, “Nevertheless, if trying to initiate Tri-Evolution didn’t work when Greymon tried to provoke you all, then that proves there must be some additional criteria to meet before you can do evolutions like that.” Her hand then pointed forward towards Patamon, “HOWEVER! If you two can get your focus just right, you can likely achieve regular evolution better than you can with Tri-Evolution.”

As Megchan wrapped her arms and gave a sage nod, Shinsei asked, “... you... think you could train us then?”

“Huh?” Megchan opened her eyes and looked to Shinsei in confusion, “Y-Yeah, of course! I mean, that’s why you came to see a ‘Legendary Tamer’ like me, right? Like I said, I don’t do much these days so I got time. PLUS training a Chosen Child?” A grin once again formed, “It’s a thought that just excites me!!”

Seeing the perfect situation, Shinsei and Patamon couldn’t help but smile right back, along with Culumon and Kazpa. This was a great opportunity as any for Patamon and Shinsei to get the proper training they would need.

And while several days would pass and cause them to be behind schedule, they would eventually learn that these lessons they would learn would save them in future encounters.

TO BE CONTINUED
